This Sunday, we continue our "I'm So Glad" sermon series with a message that turns our understanding of life upside down. Kara Laughlin will be sharing her sermon, I'm So Glad; I Get a Life, where we’ll explore what it means to find true life—by letting go. It’s a powerful concept that ties into the comforting idea of being "the apple of His eye."
What It Means to Be the Apple of God’s Eye: A Reflection on Love and Life
In Scripture, the phrase “the apple of my eye” refers to something or someone deeply cherished and protected. In translations of Psalm 17:8, the phrase is literally translated as 'the little man of the eye,' referring to the tiny reflection you see in someone’s pupil. Take a moment to consider this: when you look into God's eyes, you see your own reflection—because that’s how closely God watches over you and how deeply you are loved.
Finding Life as the Apple of His Eye: How God Cherishes You
This idea finds its ultimate expression in the life and sacrifice of Jesus. If anyone was the apple of God’s eye, surely it was Jesus. But Jesus gave up His life—His place as the most precious—to make room for us in God's heart. John 3:16 reminds us, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." Because of this sacrifice, we are now invited to live as the apple of God’s eye.
As we gather this Sunday, we invite you to experience this truth firsthand as we reflect on how finding true life often begins with letting go and trusting in God's unfailing gaze. Services are at 8, 9:30, and 11 AM. Then between the 9:30 and 11 AM services, enjoy an Apple Treats Coffee Hour and kids' apple sack races—a joyful celebration of the simple, beautiful truth that God dearly loves us.
Remember, you are the apple of God's eye—cherished, protected, and forever seen.
